Scissor & Shear Sharpening

I sharpen a wide variety of scissors, including:

  • Grooming and salon shears

    • Straight edge, curved, chunkers, thinners

  • Kitchen, dressmaking, and carpet scissors

Pricing

  • Grooming & Salon Shears – $14–$20, depending on size and type

  • Household, Sewing, & Large Shears – $8–$15

Sharpening Process

I expertly sharpen scissors on several Twice-as-Sharp special scissor machines:

  • Nicks and dull edges are removed, and the edge is polished.

  • Ride lines are polished and re-set as needed to ensure even cutting from pivot to tip.

  • Weak tips are often caused by uneven ride lines and must be honed from pivot to tip to restore balance.

  • Scissor tension is adjusted to recommended factory tension using a scissor nut or screw.

  • Missing and damaged bumpers are replaced as necessary.

  •  Scissor tips that have become too pointy will be rounded for safety reasons.

  • Ride lines are the flat side of the scissor and need to be smooth and even where it meets the bevel portion of each scissor blade.

Each scissor is tested for a smooth, full cut from pivot to tip before being returned. Rubber tips are added to the scissor tips as needed for safety.
